While the use of horses in warfare has declined with the advent of modern technology, the term "cavalry" is still used to refer to certain specialized units within modern armed forces, such as armored or mechanized cavalry units. **

The cavalry was ineffective in World War II due to several reasons. Firstly, the development of modern warfare, including the widespread use of tanks, artillery, and aircraft, made traditional cavalry tactics obsolete. Additionally, the difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions in many theaters of the war made it challenging for cavalry units to maneuver effectively. Furthermore, the increasing mechanization of the military meant that cavalry units were often outmatched in terms of speed and firepower by armored and motorized units. As a result, cavalry units were largely relegated to reconnaissance and security roles rather than playing a significant combat role in World War II. **
